The Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) is responsible for setting cut-off points for various courses across universities, including Bachelor of Arts(BA) programmes.
A Bachelor of Arts is one of the most common undergraduate degrees in Kenya. It is a degree that focuses on majors in the humanities and social sciences.
The four-year degree combines disciplines such as Literature, English Language and Linguistics, and Kiswahili—offered by the Department of Literature, Languages and Linguistics—with other fields including Economics, History, Philosophy, Sociology, and Geography, which are offered by other departments within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and other faculties within the university.
KUCCPS Cut-off points refer to the weighted cluster points of the last competitively placed student in a given degree programme.
Weighted cluster points represent a KCSE candidate’s computed performance in four subjects required for admission into a specific degree programme, measured against the performance of the best candidates in that year’s KCSE examination.A
The calculation is based on cluster subject requirements and a candidate’s overall performance.
All candidates admitted to the Bachelor of Arts degree programme must satisfy the minimum entrance requirements stipulated in the common university admission regulations.
In addition, candidates must have attained a minimum grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and at least a C+ in the relevant subject cluster for their chosen specialization.
