The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its system for the 2026 application to universities, colleges, and TVET institutions.
KUCCPS online application opened on April 7, 2026, and will run until May 6, 2026.
The application targets the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination class and other Form Four leavers from previous years. The 2025 class can apply for both degree and TVET programs.
During the application window, many students face challenges and ask questions regarding the KUCCPS application process, including course selection, revision, and placement.
Below are answers to these Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs).
KUCCPS FAQs: Answers on Course Revision, Cut-Off Points, and Placement
How do I log in to my student portal?
To log in to the Student’s Portal, you need your correct KCSE index number, KCSE examination year, and a password.
The password is either your KCPE index number or birth certificate number. The login page (students.kuccps.net) is accessible via the KUCCPS website www.kuccps.ac.ke or the KUCCPS Students App.
What is the difference between cut-off points and weighted cluster points?
Weighted cluster points are a KCSE examination graduate’s computed performance in four subjects required for admission to a given degree programme against that of the best candidates in the particular KCSE examination year.
It is based on the cluster subject requirements and a candidate’s overall performance.
The points are computed to three decimal places to reduce the chances of applicants tying on points. Cut-off points are the weighted cluster points of the last competitively placed student in a given degree programme.
How does one calculate weighted cluster points?
Students are advised not to attempt to calculate their cluster points, as doing so would result in incorrect points.
Instead, you should check your respective weighted cluster points, which are readily computed and available on your KUCCPS portal.
KUCCPS calculates your cluster points through the automated placement system after obtaining KCSE examination performance data, including performance indices (PI) for each student, from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
Individual secondary school graduates are not provided with the PI, hence they cannot calculate their weighted cluster points.
Where can I find a list of universities or colleges eligible for KUCCPS student placement?
The list is available on the Student’s Portal, students.kuccps.net.
Does KUCCPS also place students at private universities?
KUCCPS also places students in private universities. Students placed at private universities are eligible only for government loans. The full list of all eligible institutions is available on the Students’ Portal.
I did the KCSE examination many years ago, but I have never gone to college. Can KUCCPS place me in a degree programme?
That is not possible. Placement to degree programmes is intended for eligible fresh secondary school graduates (those who sat the KCSE examination in the year immediately preceding the selection). However, you can apply for TVET courses.
Inter-Institutional Transfer
What is inter-institutional transfer?
This is an opportunity for successful applicants to request a transfer from one institution to another. The transfer processing fee is KSh 1,000.
How many times can one request for an inter-institution transfer?
Applicants can transfer only once.
When will the system open for inter-institutional transfer applications?
The system opens for a specific period after the release of placement results. Keep checking the KUCCPS website and official social media pages for updates.
How long does the online inter-institution transfer process take?
Processing takes up to 14 working days.
What are the requirements for inter-institution transfer?
Applicants must satisfy the minimum requirements for the program they wish to change to (where applicable).
The applicants must also meet the cut-off points for the specific programme in their desired institution. Additionally, the heads of the institutions must endorse the transfer application.

Intra-Institutional Transfer
Is it possible to change a course but in the same institution?
Many institutions allow intra-institutional (inter-faculty) transfers for admitted students, but applicants must meet the minimum subject requirements for the desired courses and the cut-off points for the courses at the particular institution.
Is KUCCPS involved in intra-faculty transfers?
Intra-faculty transfers are undertaken within the concerned institutions without the involvement of KUCCPS.
However, the institutions are required to observe the applicable programme cut-off points.
Government Funding to Students
How does the current funding system work?
First, students apply to KUCCPS for placement at their desired institutions and programmes.
After placement, students who require financial support apply for funding through the Higher Education Funding Application Portal www.hef.co.ke.
Starting with the 2022 cohort, the government offers loans (HELB) and scholarships to students joining public universities and public TVET institutes, while it provides loans only to those enrolling in private universities. Students admitted before 2022 are funded under the old funding model.
