President William Ruto has criticized online users for using the internet for negative purposes.
Speaking at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) ceremony on Wednesday, Ruto said that the government delivered free Wi-Fi across the country to help Kenyans generate income.
According to him, many had recently been using it for what he termed as ‘Kusalimiana’ adding that Kenyans were sending ‘encouraging messages’.
“It would be a very good experience, apart from what is going on now, the platform is being used ‘kusalimiana’.
“Sometimes you can become the architect of your own troubles. When we delivered Wi-Fi across Kenya and made it free, we intended it to be used for good purposes, but sometimes it is used to send us encouraging messages,” he said with a giggle.

Ruto Details his Plan for the Free Wi- Fi
The Head of State went on to state that his plan for the last mile connectivity project was to help the youth make income by engaging in e Commerce.
He highlighted forex exchange and trading on government bonds as some of the ways the youth should use internet connectivity to make money.
“We deliver the last mile connectivity using our digital superhighway. We are now expanding to every ward in Kenya so that we can give a chance to young people across the country to have access to digital jobs and digital commerce.
“Among the digital commerce that I am looking forward to is trading on government bonds, shares at the exchange and also forex trading so that the many people who we have connected to internet and Wi-Fi across Kenya, as we make internet more accessible, then it can be used to access digital jobs and we can do more e commerce,” added Ruto.
