Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Eliud Lagat has announced changes in the Kenya Police Service (KPS).
According to NTV, Lagat has made changes affecting three directorates within the Kenya Police.
In the changes, Lagat has split the Directorate of Community Policing into two separate units.
The Directorate was previously headed by Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) Judy Lamet.
Lamet will continue as Director of Community Policing.
She will focus on strengthening the relationship between the police and the public.
Lagat has appointed Commissioner of Police, Dolly Onyango, as the new Director of the Children and Gender Protection Unit.
Onyango will head the Directorate, which has been separated from the Community Policing docket.
It will handle all matters concerning children and women, including cases of gender-based violence and crimes affecting children.
The Directorate of Chaplaincy and Psychosocial Support has also been divided into two units.
Lagat has appointed new commanders for each unit, redeploying Vincent Makoha, who previously led the Chaplaincy unit, to police headquarters at Vigilance House.
The DIG picked a Police Chief and Trained Counsellor, Evelyne Njeri, to head the newly established Counselling Unit.
Other Appointments
DIG Lagat appointed the former Deputy Head of the RECCE Unit, Clinton Kimaiyo, as Murang’a County Police boss.
Kimaiyo takes over from Benjamin Kimwele, who has been recalled to police headquarters.
Additionally, Michael Ndiaga has been posted as the new Deputy Police Chief of the Rift Valley.
Ndiaga previously served at the Regional Headquarters in Nakuru.
He succeeds Joel Lekuta, who has been redeployed to the Logistics Department at Vigilance House.
