Ezekiel Mwita, Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) was found dead at his rental house in Matuu Town, Machakos County, on Friday December 15.
According to a police report, the 54-year-old cop, who was also the Commandant Border Police Patrol Unit, fell unconscious suddenly at his rental house in Matuu Town.
“Today the 15th of December 2023 at about midnight it was reported vide OB No. 2/15/12/202 that one Mr Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita, S/AIG aged 54 years who was the Commandant Border Police Patrol Unit suddenly fell unconscious in his rental house at Matuu Town,” the report read in part.
The senior officer was transferred to Matuu Level 4 Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

It is not clear what caused the death. The body was moved to Umash Funeral Home pending autopsy.
Nonetheless, Ezekiel Mwita was the commandant of the Border Police Patrol Unit, which is key in among others war on terrorism, cross-border crimes, cattle rustling and human smuggling.
Notably, he was one of the senior officers in the Administration Police Service.
Ezekiel Mwita Eulogized
The Deputy Inspector General – Administration Police Service, (DIG-APS) Noor Gabow CBS, OGW, mourned the late Gitiba Mwita.
In a statement, the National Police Service noted that Ezekiel Mwitauntil his demise, was the Commandant at the Border Police Unit in Kanyonyo, Kitui County.
“As the Service and family embark on funeral and burial arrangements, the DIG joins the family, friends and relatives, and the entire fraternity in mourning this gallant and dedicated officer,” read the message in part.

On the other hand, Migori County through the Deputy Governor Joseph Gimunta mourned Ezekiel Mwita noting they would stand with the family at this hard time.
“With great sadness and sympathy, I Dr. Joseph Gimunta Mahiri and the Governor of Dr. Ochillo Ayacko and Government of Migori County, we want to express our sincere condolences to the entire families of Mr Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita,” the deputy governor wrote.
“As you shine on your way Mr Ezekiel Gitiba Mwita OB number 2/15/12/202 we as the County Government of Migori we stand together with your family at this time of hardship,” he added.
