Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, on Saturday, November 16 reported that an ardent supporter of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had been abducted.
In a statement, Njiru reported that Eutychus Ngechu had been abducted by people believed to be police officers early Saturday morning, November16.
“Eutychus Ngechu an ardent supporter of HE Rigathi Gachagua was this morning at around 2am abducted by known police officers,one of them was identified as Maasai. He was abducted from his parents home at Kigumo in Murang’a county. This is what he had posted yesterday,” the statement read.
In his last post on Friday, Eutychus had posted a message of Gachagua who addressed thousands of Nakuru residents live on air through a call from a popular Kameme FM presenter, Muthoni wa Kirumba.

In his remarks, Gachagua had expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Nakuru people for their efforts in fostering unity toward a shared cause.
The former Deputy President also reassured the audience of his dedication to addressing their concerns and emphasized the importance of collective strength in achieving common goals.
He further shared that he is currently engaging in extensive consultations with key stakeholders and will soon provide clear guidance for the Mountain people to follow.

According to Eutychus, Gachagua’s address was a call for continued solidarity and patience, reinforcing the message that progress is achieved through collaboration, mutual understanding, and strategic leadership.
Gachagua’s address came during a meet the people tour organized by a vernacular radio station. In the video shared by Eutychus, residents in Nakuru were in high spirits as they acknowledged the greetings from the former Deputy President whose voice was put in loudspeaker.
Besides the post on Friday, Eutychus has been making pro-Gachagua posts on his Facebook account. The police were yet to comment on his alleged abduction by the time of this publication.
Eutychus’ alleged abduction comes at a time when the country has witnessed a surge in abductions since the June protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

Recent cases of abductions
Victims of abductions have been people who have dissenting voices against the government.
Recently, Social media influencer, Scophine Aoko Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko, was found at the Kenya-Tanzania border after going missing.
Aoko’s discovery at the border was confirmed by her aide on Friday, November 1. Her last tweet was posted on October 22, before she went missing.

Elsewhere, a Nairobi-based lawyer, John Eric Wesonga alias Lavani Mila was abducted by unknown individuals in broad daylight on Tuesday, October 29. He was later released by his abductors on Wednesday, October 30.
Activist Boniface Mwangi was also reportedly abducted by unknown people on Sunday, October 27 according to reports by family.
In a statement, activist Hussein Khalid said that Mwangi was allegedly abducted probably by people believed to be drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Mwangi was later released on Monday October 28 after spending the night at Kamkunji Police Station.
