Makadara Law Courts Magistrate Monica Kivuti who was shot at the court on Thursday is seeking urgent blood donation from Kenyans.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) male representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Omwanza Ombati in an appeal on Friday June 14 asked Kenyans of goodwill to donate blood.
According to Ombati, magistrate Kivuti is currently admitted at Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu, Nairobi where she is undergoing medication.
“Urgent appeal for blood donation. This is to kindly request for blood donation for Hon. Monica Kivuti. Your kindness, selflessness, and love is highly appreciated,” the appeal notice detailed.
In the appeal, Kenyans willing to donate blood are advised to appear in person at the facility.

Further, the lawyer announced that any blood group is recommended.

Makadara shooting
The principal magistrate was rushed to the medical facility after a police officer shot her on Thursday afternoon at the Makadara Law Courts.
In the tragic incident, the cop behind the shooting who was a senior police officer acting as an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Londiani Police Station shot the magistrate during a live court session.
According to a police statement, the 55-year-old OCS shot at Magistrate Kivuti who had declined a request to release his wife, who was facing charges in a case, through cash bail.
Police further revealed that Kipchirchir’s wife was facing charges of obtaining money by false pretense amounting to Ksh2.9 million.

As investigations continue, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome said that security personnel have since cordoned off the Makadara Law courts from the general public.
Officers from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) have taken charge to expedite investigations.
JSC and Martha Koome Respond
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on its part condemned the shooting of the Makadara Principal Magistrate in a statement on Thursday, June 14.
JSC expressed concern about the incident saying it was appalling as it happened at a place where disputes are resolved through legal process, a place that signifies justice.
The Commission commended the police officers stationed at Makadara Law Courts who swiftly responded to the attack.
In addition, JSC lauded the prompt action taken by the Judiciary to provide the necessary support to staff and the National Police Service (NPS) for securing the scene and commencing investigations.
The Commission assured all Judges, Judicial Officers, staff, stakeholders and the public at large of its commitment to ensuring their safety in all court stations.
“The JSC will work with relevant agencies to enhance security in all courts and ensure that similar incidences do not happen again,” it said.
The Commission wished Kivuti and the injured police officers a quick recovery.
Chief Justice Martha Koome in her response to the shooting called for an urgent meeting by the Executive Director of the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ).
At the same time, Koome has ordered that the Makadara Law Courts remain closed until Monday, June 17 for security reinforcement.
