Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua left everyone laughing after he revisited the photo clips and videos where President William Ruto was holding hands with Mama Rachel Ruto during his state visit to the United States (US).
Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast meeting, Gachagua said the gesture created problems between Kenyan men and their wives.
The DP said Kenyan wives, led by the second lady, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, piled pressure on their husbands to follow President Ruto’s footsteps and hold their hands in public and even in private.
“All Kenyans were monitoring what you were doing in the US. There is something that you did there that created problems for many husbands across the country. When you were walking there holding the hand of the first lady, it put us back here under a lot of pressure,” Gachagua said amidst laughter.
“Our spouses led by mine Pastor Dorcas were demanding that we emulate the president and hold their hands wherever we went to. Mine even went beyond, she wanted me to walk her to the car and hold her hands around the house.”
How Ruto Has Solved the Problem
Additionally, Gachagua said even Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi complained to him that his spouse wanted a similar treatment.
“I was not alone, Mudavadi also told me the issue of holding hands brought problems in his house, but I told him my place was worse,” he said.
However, Gachagua stated that he was confident that President Ruto will solve the problem once he lands back to Kenya.
The DP lightly said the president had gone back to default and was not holding his wife’s hands when they walked into the meeting.
“I was certain that you would solve the challenge and this morning you did just that. As we welcomed you from your car to this place, you were walking fast with me chatting as Mama Rachel was rushing to catch up with you. So, the matter is sorted and that was an American thing,” Gachagua said amidst laughter from the audience.

Gachagua Promises to Hold Pastor Dorcas’ Hands
However, Gachagua said he will soon visit the US and hold Dorcas’ hand during the trip.
“For Pastor Dorcas all is not lost, very soon the president will send me to the States for an assignment and I will go with you,” he said.
“You have my assurance that for the time we will be in the American soil, I will hold your hand until we leave the country. But when we come back, please let’s go back to our lives.”

The DP further said Ruto will be summoned by the men’s conference to provide an explanation for his action.
“Although you have sorted the matter for us, you are my friend, and I would like to tell that I have information that you will be summoned to the men conference to give answers,” Gachagua said.
While beginning his speech, President Ruto continued with the joke stating that he will appear before the men’s conference.
“It is true that I have been summoned by the men’s conference and I will go and answer,” Ruto said.
