The National Police Service (NPS)has issued a statement clarifying the alleged abduction of former Limuru Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Mwathi.
NPS spokesperson Resila Onyango in a statement on Friday, November 29, stated that the incident happened when the former legislator was addressing mourners at Bibirioni Boys High School, Limuru.
“Following the unfortunate incident that occurred on November 28, 2024, when fracas broke out during the funeral of the late Erastus Nduati in Limuru, and the subsequent call by leaders seeking to establish the whereabouts of Hon. Peter Mwathi at the DCI Headquarters last night, the National Police Service (NPS) wishes to update the public on status of our investigations,” read the statement in part.
“Unknown individuals started hurling objects and chairs, forcing mourners to scamper for safety. Consequently, property of unknown number and value were damaged, but so far, we have received a report from only one complainant.”
NPS Issues Statement on Limuru Attack
DR Resila emphasized that the police did not arrest Mwathi on the said day adding that he is not a person of interest to the investigations.
“Further, we wish to clarify that the National Police Service did not arrest Hon. Peter Mwathi, and he is not a person of interest to the Police. DCI Limuru has commenced investigations into the matter to establish the cause of the fracas and bring to book, the perpetrators behind this insensitive act,” NPS said
“The Officers are currently on the ground recording statements from family members of the deceased.”
Furthermore, the NPS called upon anyone with information that may aid in the arrest of the suspects who invaded the burial to report to the nearest police station, even as it reaffirms its commitment to serve and protect all Kenyans.

Gachagua Allies Claim ex-MP Peter Mwathi Abducted by Police
The statement comes after Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and his Nyandarua counterpart John Methu alleged that the former Limuru Member of Parliament Peter Mwathi was abducted by police officers in the process.
The also claimed that the chaos was a direct attempt on the life of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Earlier, Mwathi’s wife, Dr. Anne Mungai narrated the events leading to her husband allegedly being taken away by police officers.
She noted that Mwathi’s vehicle was sandwiched between two Subaru vehicles, which led to him being abducted, as she pleaded with the government to release her husband.
“Mine is just to ask the government to release my husband because he went for a funeral, he has attended many other funerals in Limuru. He has served the people of Limuru diligently and he was abducted by force,” stated Dr. Mungai.
“The vehicle that he had gotten into so that he gets out of the chaos was sandwiched by two Subarus that had no number plates, so definitely that’s the government. So may the government release my husband.”

Gachagua Speaks After Gang Attack
Ousted DP, Gachagua in a statement on Thursday, November 26 stated that it is very sad state of affairs and a major low for the state, who he said were clearly complicit in these actions.
He said that they especially remember the family that had a loved one in a casket, who had to run to safety despite their profound grief after gangsters armed with stones, machetes, iron bars and sticks attacked them.
The former Deputy President went on to narrate how gangs randomly descended on mourners, attacking them with the weapons they had.
He noted that a specific group trailed him as he rushed towards his car, which they attacked with stones and iron bars.
