Twelve applicants have been shortlisted for the position of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police.
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) reported that they received a total of thirty applications out of which the twelve were shortlisted.
Moreover, the commission had advertised for the position of Deputy Inspector General on March 21, 2023, after it became vacant following the retirement of Edward Mbugua.
The candidates shortlisted include.
- Former police spokesperson Bruno Shioso
- Acting Deputy IG Abdalla Komesha
- David Kipkosgei
- Vincent Makokha
- David Rono
- Jacinta Muthoni.
- Maurice Kiplagat
- Tom Mboya
- Rosemary Sipatan
- Douglas Kanja
- Gideon Munga
- Judy Jebet
Likewise, National Police Service Commission Chairman Eliud Kinuthia stated that interviews for the shortlisted candidates are set for Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

The NPSC met at Kenya School of Government on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, to prepare the list of candidates shortlisted for the Deputy Inspector General post ahead of the interviews.

To qualify for the job, NPSC demanded that a candidate.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree
- Must have served in the police service for at least 15 years
- Must be of the rank of Assistant Inspector General of police
Nevertheless, the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police (DIG), will control almost 70,000 personnel.
He/she will oversee all eight regional police commanders, 47 county commanders, formation commanders, Sub County Commanders, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and all uniformed officers.
Furthermore, the DIG controls the General Service Unit, traffic department and Kenya Police College in Kiganjo.
