Former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has broken his prolonged silence months after President Ruto dissolved the Cabinet following the 2024 general protests. Machogu labelled Ruto a liar who has failed to fulfill his promises. Speaking at a funeral in Kisii on August 8, 2025, the former CS criticized Ruto’s policies.
“Do you want me to tell you what has happened to the wheelbarrow these days? The wheelbarrow has burst and turned into scrap,” said Machogu.
Machogu made accusations against several Kisii politicians, including Nyaribari Chache Member of Zaheer Jhanda and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, alleging they played a role in his ouster.

He also criticized President Ruto for failing to honor promises and delaying key projects.
“These brothers of mine know that when I was in government, I took them to meet William Samoei Ruto and told him what the Kisii community wanted. When we were campaigning, we talked about ‘money in the pocket’ and said ‘bottom-up’. Our people are not meant to be given Ksh 64 — isn’t that insulting to them? We take government money and bring it to the citizens, claiming it is economic empowerment, but there is nothing like that,” said the former CS.

Machogu further stated that the UDA ship is sinking and urged residents not to rally behind President William Ruto.
The former Education CS also endorsed Former Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiangi for the 2027 presidency and urged the Gusi community to rally behind him.
“We now have our own son, Dr. Fred Matiang’i. Let us unite behind him. We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past. We are already in talks with Professor Sam Ongeri, and we are committed to bringing our people together,” said the former Education CS.

He also expressed support for the ‘Wantam’ movement, led by opposition leaders, which seeks to make President William Ruto a one-term president.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda said he is not to blame for the former CS’s sacking.
“I did not sack him; the President did. He knows why he was shown the door,” said the legislator.

Besides Machogu, other former CSs who have criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration include former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi and former Public Service CS Justin Muturi, both allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached. impeached.
