Controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie’s co-accused appeared at the Shanzu Law Courts on Wednesday; June 14 too weak to walk.
This is after Shakahola cultist preacher, his wife Rhodha Mumbua and 16 other co-accused persons decided to go on hunger strike while in police custody.
18 suspects were presented at the Shanzu Law Court in Mombasa on Wednesday, June 14 for a hearing on whether to extend their detention or not.
Moreover, some of these suspects appeared frail as they came down from the police vehicles that ferried them to court.
Some could not even walk into the courtroom as one of the suspects could not sit upright even with support from helpers.
Police officers reported that the suspects had boycotted food for 7-days during their detention.

Furthermore, police were granted more time to detain controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie and his co-accused pending investigations and to allow the hearing of an application seeking a further 60-day detention.
“Prosecution through Coast Deputy Regional Head, Jami Yamina, told the court that there were compelling reasons to deny the suspects bail, citing the complexity of the investigations,” the ODPP noted.
