The Premier League and European Top Five Season Climaxes Date: May 2025, Europe

The English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 will all conclude their seasons in May.

Super Bowl Date: February 9

The National Football League’s (NFL) Super Bowl LIX will take centre stage on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Notably, the Super Bowl is notably the annual league championship game of the NFL.

This annual final clash of gridiron titans has been a spectacle since 1966, drawing millions of global viewers.

Winning teams are further awarded the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named after the eponymous coach who won the first two Super Bowls.

Super Bowl LIX will be the eighth Super Bowl played in the Superdome, and the 11th in the city of New Orleans, the most recent being Super Bowl XLVII in 2013, held in the same venue (then called Mercedes-Benz Superdome).

Beyond the touchdowns, what sets the Super Bowl apart is the halftime show performances from renowned international artists.

World Athletics Indoor Championships Date: March 21–23, Nanjing, China

Nanjing will host the 19th edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

UEFA Champions League Final Date: May 31, Munich, Germany

The 2025 UEFA Champions League Final is set to take place at Munich’s Allianz Arena, a venue renowned for hosting high-stakes matches.

This season has already seen intense rivalries unfold, with top clubs from Europe vying for glory.

The tournament’s culmination in Munich promises thrilling action, as elite teams battle for the continent’s most prestigious football trophy.

Expect record-breaking attendance and the chance to witness football’s brightest stars shine under the spotlight.

Kip Keino Classic Date: May 31, Nairobi, Kenya

As part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series, the Kip Keino Classic continues to grow in prominence, attracting global athletics legends.

Set to be hosted at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, the 2025 edition promises fierce competition in sprinting, middle-distance, and field events.

Named after Kenyan icon Kipchoge Keino, this meet is not only a showcase of talent but also a celebration of Kenya’s enduring legacy in athletics.

FIFA Club World Cup (Expanded Edition) Date: June 15 – July 13, United States

For the first time, the FIFA Club World Cup will feature 32 teams, mirroring the structure of the traditional FIFA World Cup.

This expanded format includes champions from all confederations, plus additional top-tier clubs, creating a global competition that showcases the best in club football.

The U.S. is hosting, further cementing its status as a rising football hub. Matches will be held across iconic venues such as SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and MetLife Stadium in New York.

Fans can expect to see heavyweights like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Flamengo compete in one of 2025’s major sports events, alongside lesser-known champions from Asia and Africa.

Wimbledon Championships Date: June 30 – July 13, London, England

The All-England Lawn Tennis Club will once again host the prestigious Wimbledon Championships.

This year promises a thrilling blend of established stars and rising talent.

Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Iga Świątek are expected to dominate, while fans hope for Cinderella stories akin to past tournaments.

Tour de France Date: July 5 – July 27, France

The 112th edition of the Tour de France promises its usual blend of gruelling competition and breathtaking scenery which makes it feature in the list of sports events to look out for.

Riders will navigate over 3,000 kilometres of diverse terrain, from the flatlands of Normandy to the punishing climbs of the Alps and Pyrenees.

Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard and rivals like Tadej Pogačar are expected to battle for the yellow jersey.

This year, organizers are introducing innovative stages, including more challenging mountain finishes and time trials, ensuring unpredictability.

Fans can also look forward to the return of women’s Tour de France stages following their successful reintroduction.

2025 Rugby World Cup Date: August 27 – September 2, England

The Women’s Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for national rugby union teams, returns to England for the first time since 2010, where the nation captivated fans with thrilling matches and a passionate home crowd.

Organised by World Rugby, this tournament which will be the tenth edition of the women’s Rugby World Cup will feature 16 teams, expanded from the 12 which participated in 2021, vying for the coveted Webb Ellis Cup over a month of intense competition.

South Africa, Ireland and New Zealand will be among the top contenders while rising nations like Japan and Fiji aim to disrupt traditional hierarchies.

New Zealand enters the tournament as defending champions following their victory against England in the 2021 Rugby World Cup Final. 

The final is expected to take place at Twickenham Stadium, known as the home of rugby.

World Athletics Championships Date: September 13 – September 21 Tokyo, Japan

Returning to Tokyo’s National Stadium, the World Athletics Championships will feature over 1,800 athletes competing across 49 events.

Expect nail-biting moments as sprinters chase new records, middle-distance runners vie for glory, and field athletes aim for personal bests in Japan’s capital, the site of the 2021 Olympic Games.

The Championships are also focusing on technological advancements, like real-time data for fans and athletes, and eco-friendly initiatives inspired by Tokyo’s 2021 Olympic legacy.

Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Date: December 2025- January 2026

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to kick off on December 21, 2025, in Morocco.

With the excitement from the spectacular 2023 AFCON still fresh in the minds of fans, the upcoming championship promises to set even higher standards.

24 teams have been confirmed to participate in the tournament following the completion of Qualifiers and the stage is set for the pinnacle of African football, with fans worldwide anticipating the 35th edition of the tournament.

The 2023 edition of the tournament, hosted in Côte d’Ivoire, was truly extraordinary. According to Forbes, over 2 billion viewers tuned in globally, highlighting the competition’s growing appeal.

From the global stage of the Rugby World Cup to the electric atmosphere of the UEFA Women’s Euro, 2025 is shaping up to be a banner year for major sports events.
