A driver of a matatu operating under the Zuri Genesis company on Tuesday warmed hearts over his efforts to help a pregnant woman.
One of the passengers in the bus narrated the incident on how a woman traveling from Kiambu to Nairobi CBD was stranded in traffic.
According to the passenger, the lady was in labour and the traffic congestion along the road meant she risked not making it to a hospital in time.
However, the conductor upon noticing the woman’s situation informed the driver in a bid to find a solution. At the time, inbound traffic was halted by a traffic cop coordinating flow along the road.
In response, the driver quickly alerted the traffic police officer on the situation at hand.
Within a few minutes, the traffic cop heeded the driver’s request and allowed the vehicles caught in the traffic to move.
As such, the driver got back to his seat and drove as fast he could to ensure the lady got to a hospital, according to the passenger’s narration.
“The driver drove as if his last breath depended on that,” the passenger narrated.
While on his way, the driver kept hooting to plead for way akin to how an ambulance would signal other motorists of the emergency at hand.

The Zuri Genesis matatu Sacco plies the Nairobi to Zimmerman and Githurai 44 route off the Thika Road.
In some quarters, the sacco has been touted as among the most disciplined saccos in Nairobi’s public transport sector.
Nonetheless, cases of drivers and matatu crew in general are not new in the city.
Despite the widespread concerns about rogue matatu crew, some drivers and conductors have in the past gone out of their way to set an example of what an ideal public transport sector should entail.
