Popular American contemporary worship music collective, Maverick City, has addressed uproar over images of an upside down cross pictured during their ongoing world tour.
Kingdom World Tour, the organization behind the events, has said that it was a mistake adding that both the singers and Kirk Franklin were not aware of it.
Renowned gospel artist Kirk Franklin has joined the group in the tour, singing in various countries including the latest in South Africa and Kenya.
Reports of the upside down cross began circulating after their performance in South Africa and Malawi, with many Christians and non-Christians raising concerns of demonic reference.
“We would like to address the recent incident during the Kingdom world Tour where a stained-glass window was mistakenly displayed upside down, showing an image of an upside down cross during a performance involving Maverick City and Kirk Franklin,” a statement from the organizers read in part.

Maverick City Explains the Upside-Down Cross
According to the group, the upside-down cross was actually a mistake by the graphics projectors who displayed the artwork upside down.
Additionally, the statement explained that the singers were unaware of the display, adding that it did not hold any significant meaning.
“We want to assure everyone that this was an unintended error by the media team and does not hold any intentional or significant meaning.
“We have thoroughly reviewed the situation and taken corrective actions to ensure such errors do not occur in the future,” the statement added.
However, unsatisfied users online questioned why the performers did not note the error before the concert began.
The organizers answered that the projection was only during a brief moment of the concert and had not been permanently installed at the venue of the event.
“There is nothing wrong with the content, it is how it was projected by the LED tech that was the issue. Hence the entire motion graphic was upside down not just the cross,”
“We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and appreciate your understanding and continued support. We are excited to keep lifting up the name of JESUS all over the world together.”
