Tahmeed Coach is one of East Africa’s leading long-distance transport companies, operating passenger and parcel services across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
With a fleet of more than 60 buses and an extensive network that links major cities and towns across the region, the company has become a significant player in East Africa’s road transport industry.
Background
The company says it has been operating for more than 16 years and has built its business around providing long-distance passenger travel and parcel delivery services.
Over the years, Tahmeed has expanded beyond Kenya, establishing a presence in neighboring Tanzania and Uganda, making it one of the few transport operators with a strong regional footprint.
Tahmeed maintains key offices in Nairobi and Mombasa.
Its Nairobi operations are based at Zahra Building on River Road, while its Mombasa office is located at Aswan Building on Kenyatta Avenue.
The company has also established booking offices and agents in numerous towns within its route network.

Tahmeed competes with major regional operators, including Easy Coach, Modern Coast, Ena Coach, Mash East Africa, and Coast Bus, in the highly competitive long-distance transport sector.
Tahmeed Coach Route Network
The company operates one of the widest transport networks in the region.
In Kenya, its buses serve destinations including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Kitale, Kisii, Migori, Malindi, and Kilifi.
The network extends into Uganda through Kampala and major border towns, while services into Tanzania connect travelers to Arusha, Moshi, Tanga and Dar es Salaam.
The regional network has enabled the company to capture both domestic and cross-border traffic, particularly along the busy corridors linking Kenya with Tanzania and Uganda.
Apart from transporting passengers, Tahmeed runs parcel and courier services through the same network, providing an additional revenue stream and increasing vehicle utilization.
Parcel and courier services have become a key component of the business, allowing the company to generate revenue beyond passenger transport.
Fleet Expansion
Historically, Tahmeed has relied heavily on Scania buses and recently expanded its fleet with modern luxury coaches as part of efforts to improve efficiency and passenger comfort.
Growth in fleet size has played a major role in the company’s expansion. In April 2023, Tahmeed acquired nine new Scania F360 luxury buses.
The acquisition increased the company’s fleet to more than 60 buses and strengthened operations on routes linking Nairobi, Mombasa, Malindi and Dar es Salaam.
The company has invested heavily in modern coaches fitted with amenities to improve passenger comfort.
These include air conditioning, reclining seats, power outlets, charging ports, Wi-Fi connectivity and additional legroom.

Tahmeed also says it introduced sleeper-style coaches in the East African market to enhance long-distance travel experiences.
Challenges and Position
Like many transport operators, Tahmeed has faced challenges relating to road safety. In October 2024, two of its buses were involved in separate accidents in Nairobi and Naivasha.
The company stated that passengers and crew escaped with minor injuries and that investigations were conducted to establish the cause of the incidents.
In April 2025, another Tahmeed bus traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi was involved in an accident that injured 13 people after reportedly developing brake problems.
The incident attracted regulatory attention and renewed focus on vehicle inspection and safety standards within the public transport sector.
Despite safety challenges and increasing competition, Tahmeed remains among East Africa’s most recognizable transport brands.
Its extensive route network, growing fleet and cross-border presence have helped the company maintain a strong position in the regional passenger and parcel transport market.
