Patrick Riang’a is a Kenyan entrepreneur and automotive sales expert best known as a public face of Car Soko, a leading automotive marketplace in Kenya.
He rose from a security guard to a radio presenter and later to a prominent figure in Kenya’s motor vehicle industry.
“I have come from a very bad background. In 2011, I worked as a watchman before venturing into media a year later,” Patrick noted during an interview with Felix Kingori, a prominent media personality.
Patrick is also recognized for mentoring upcoming sales professionals, including the popular Bungoma Goliath.
Early Life and Family
Patrick Riang’a was born on November 30, 1989, in Nyangeti Village, Machoge Masaba in Kisii County.
He was raised in a modest rural family, where financial challenges shaped his early life and education.
Despite performing well in primary school and reportedly earning placement to a national secondary school after KCPE, his parents were unable to raise the required school fees.
Due to the financial constraints, Patrick instead joined Harambee Secondary School, an experience he has described as a defining moment that motivated him to work harder.
In his personal life, Patrick married his wife, whom he met at Nation Media Group, and she has been supportive of him through his financial challenges after quitting his media job to date.
At one point in Patrick’s life, he explains that during his wife’s pregnancy, they were locked out of a bedsitter because they could not pay KSh 6,000 in rent after moving from a house where he had paid KSh 35,000 while working at Nation Media.
The couple later moved to Kawangware.

To further his education, Patrick attended Riokindo Boys, Riyabu Secondary, and Sameta High School, where he completed his secondary education, scoring B-(Minus) in 2010.
Patrick publicly clarified in an interview that he joined higher education while working at Nation Media Group.
Patrick Riang’a Professional Career
Patrick’s career began in modest circumstances when he worked as a security guard.
His breakthrough came when he joined QFM, a Swahili radio station under Nation Media Group (NMG), where he worked as a radio presenter.
Through his experience at the radio station, Patrick developed communication, public speaking, and relationship-building skills that later supported his business career.
Later, Patrick Riang’a left radio to pursue sales and entrepreneurship, citing the high pressure of working in the media.
“I used to work for Nation Media Group, and there was a lot of pressure at work, and I did not have time to rest, and at times I could work up to 12 midnight and still was expected to report to work the following morning,” Patrick explained his reasons for transitioning into the automotive sector from the media during an interview with Felix Kingori.
On April 28, 2015, Patrick submitted his resignation to the Nation Media Group after working 7 days a week since joining the media, with the help of Esther Macharia, on January 5 in 2012.

Car Sales Career and Car Soko
After leaving broadcasting, Patrick entered the motor vehicle industry as a salesperson, establishing himself as one of Nairobi’s most successful car sales professionals.
In his venture in automotive, Patrick worked at the Ocean Cross Auto, selling cars alongside Khalif Kairo under the leadership of the then CEO Simon Nduati.
At the Ocean Cross Auto dealer, Patrick closed his first car deal, selling a Prado in two days.
Patrick later joined and led Car Soko, one of Kenya’s most recognizable automotive marketplaces.
Through the company, he became widely known as the “Car Soko Boss,” a title that further elevated his profile.
Patrick Riang’a announced his departure from Car Soko to begin a new chapter on July 1, 2026.
Beyond the car dealership, Patrick has also gained recognition for mentoring interested, up-coming sales professionals, including Bungoma Goliath, who had reportedly been stranded in Nairobi after a failed employment opportunity.
Patrick reportedly took in Goliath Wa Bungoma, offering him accommodation and training in automotive sales.
Through training, Goliath emerged as a successful salesman, closing multimillion-shilling deals and regaining his financial stability.
