The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, has come under criticism after CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital, released on Saturday, June 14, 2025, revealed that social media influencer Albert Ojwang was brought to the facility already dead.
This directly contradicts Amin’s earlier statement, made under oath, that Ojwang was still alive when he arrived at the hospital.
Amin had initially claimed that Ojwang was found unconscious in his cell at Central Police Station and rushed to Mbagathi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival on June 8, 2025.
He also misrepresented the time Ojwang was brought to the facility. According to CCTV footage seen by the Kenya Times, Ojwang’s body arrived at the hospital at 1:35 a.m. and was already deceased at that time. This contradicts Amin’s testimony that Ojwang was still alive in his cell at that same time.
“At 01:35 hours, the same PC Mohamed Hilo Abdullahi, again made an entry in the occurrence book.
Now, due to officer I.P. Ng’ang’a and the cell sentry PC Kimani having visited the cells, they found most of them well apart from the last cell, where they found a prisoner, namely Albert Omondi Ojwang, who was alone in his cell making a lot of noise while kicking the cell walls,” Amin told the National Assembly Committee on National Security.
CCTV Footage Reveals DCI Amin Lied About the Condition of Albert Ojwang
A letter from Mbagathi Hospital further confirms that Ojwang was already dead upon arrival. The letter notes that his body was cold and bore bruises on the limbs.
The contradiction made by the DCI Boss Amin has sparked widespread condemnation, with the majority of Kenyans calling for accountability.

Social media user by the name I am Chege said, “In the Mbagathi CCTV footage, we can clearly see that at 01:35 a.m, Albert Ojwang’s body was already at Mbagathi Hospital in a police land Rover. DCI Amin MUST also be arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.”
Kenyans Criticize DCI Boss for Lying
Lawyer Willis Otieno said, “ The law accepts only one truth. A man cannot simultaneously be recorded deceased at 1:35 AM in Mbagathi Hospital and claimed alive in a police cell at the same time. One of those records was fabricated. The only question is: who’s the author of the lie?”

Another user by the name Enos Emedel said, “DCI boss, Amin lies that he was in a cell making noise and hitting his head on the wall at that time. How the hell can one outrightly lie to Kenyans? This Amini guy should be arrested.”
Following the actions of DCI boss Amin, the Penal Code (Cap. 63) states that knowingly giving false testimony in or for the purpose of a judicial proceeding constitutes perjury, which is punishable under Section 110 by up to seven years’ imprisonment.
