A technician who was allegedly hired to tamper with the CCTV at the Central Police Station following the death of teacher Albert Ojwang has been arrested.
The technician admitted that he was paid Ksh3,000 to delete footage of Ojwang.
Reports indicate that the suspect was arrested on Friday morning, June 13, in a targeted operation.
Police said the technician admitted to being involved in interfering with the CCTV system.
The technician told police that a woman who had contracted him in 2024 to install CCTV footage at the station had supplied all the equipment.
He said he installed cameras at the report office, corridors leading to the cells and the parking yard.
The suspect said he had been called back on several occasions for maintenance.
He said he received a phone call from a police officer at the Station on June 8, 2025, at 6:22 am, requesting him to report to the Station immediately.
The suspect said he was taken to the office of the senior officer and asked to delete footage of 6th and 7th June when he arrived at the Station.
The suspect claims that he told the officer that he could not delete the recordings of the two days, and the only option was to delete the content of the whole Digital Video Recorder (DVR).
He stated that he never removed anything from the DVR and was given Ksh3,000 by a senior officer after the task.
Flow of Events on June 9
The same officer called him at 6:28 am on June 9, asking him to return to the station with a new drive to replace the old one.
According to the suspect, the officer asked him to wear any clothes that would make people know that he is a technician.
He went back to the station without a new hard drive because the shops had not been opened.
However, the DVR had already been opened and tampered with when he arrived, and he was told to return later.
He received a call at 12:07 p.m. from an officer checking if he was available, but he was working in Westlands at the time.

The officer informed him that his contact details had been shared with another official seeking assistance in retrieving footage.
The official contacted him, but he said he was unable to assist and sent a colleague instead.
He cited work commitments and also pointed out reports on social media regarding a death at the station.
The police stated that they are pursuing three more suspects in Ojwang’s murder.

Police Officer Arrested Over Death of Albert Ojwang
He is the second suspect to be arrested in the ongoing investigation about Ojwang’s murder.
Constable James Mukhwana was apprehended by officers from the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) on Wednesday, June 11.
He is currently being held at the Capitol Hill Police Station and is expected to face murder charges.
Mukhwana is accused of involvement in the fatal incident that occurred after Ojwang’s arrest and detention.
