A fight between two Kenyan amateur boxers, Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer, has sparked mixed reactions, with some Kenyans claiming that the match was scripted. The two internet sensations met in the ring at the Kasarani indoor arena in Nairobi on Saturday night, April 4, where Majembe was declared the winner in a technical knockout.
According to Geoffrey Mosiria, the boxing match was not a professional match but a scripted one, revealing that he had earlier secured two professional trainers for the boxer Mbavu Destroyer.
“The entire boxing match was scripted by Obina, and that is why they created propaganda to keep me out of it. I had already secured Mbavu Destroyer professional boxing trainers, two of them, one Kenyan and another Kenyan-based in Dubai, and all of them were willing to train him for the match,” part of his statement on his X account read.
In addition to paying for the training, Mosiria added that he was willing to provide accommodation near the training center.
However, challenges and disagreements arose during the process, and Mosiria was subsequently kept away from the entire arrangement through what he believed was coordinated propaganda intended to damage his reputation.
Mosiria has also refuted claims that he had asked Mbavu Destroyer to pay 200,000 if Mbavu wins.
Following the boxing match on April 4, Mosiria has alleged that the match was a scam to con Kenyans who were anticipating watching a real boxing match for a long time and ended up watching a scripted event.

In addition, Mosiria has stated that he did not attend the match due to the scheme behind the match, adding that many people assumed that his not attending was because he was disappointed in the path that Mbavu chose.
“After today’s match, Obinna and Mbavu Destroyer, they will call for a rematch, which Mbavu will win, and then they will say this is a win-win on both sides. Then, next, it will be the finals between the two to see who will win,” the statement read.
According to Mosiria, this act will make Kenyans spend money, denying other boxers a chance to compete and grow their talents.
In addition, he expressed a wish that the money collected could be used to help less fortunate children.
Public Reaction to the Boxing Match
Other Kenyans also shared their views on the much-hyped boxing event. George Tido stated that the boxing match was, of course, purely a business matter and that most people knew Mbavu was not a boxer. Still, he had appealed to people’s emotions, and Kenyans found the fight entertaining.
On the other hand, some people called out Mosiria, saying that Kenyans were aware it was scripted, just as wrestling matches are scripted.
“Kindly, you can organize what you believe is not scripted. I will give Obinna his flowers any day for organizing such an event, which makes the lives of these boxers better,” Jose Billy stated.
At the same time, Jeff Anangwe argued that the alleged scheme will be used to paint President William Ruto in a bad light.
