The much‑anticipated boxing showdown between Mbavu Destroyer (Ferdinand Omondi) and Majembe (Portifas Odipo) ended in round four with a dramatic stoppage.
21-year-old Majembe claimed victory via technical knockout after landing a punishing blow below Mbavu’s belly. The strike left Mbavu down on the canvas, writhing in pain.
Ringside medics rushed in to attend to him, but after several minutes, he signaled that he could not continue. The referee declared Majembe the winner by TKO.
The fight, held on Saturday, April 4, at the Kasarani indoor arena, had drawn national attention and strong support, including Ksh4 million pledged by President William Ruto to cover both boxers’ purses and the cost of 2,000 tickets.

Mbavu Destroyer unable to continue
At one point, the match had to be briefly stopped as fans surged close to the ring. It was in round four that the decisive moment arrived. Majembe’s body shot below Mbavu’s belly left the older fighter writhing in pain.
The match was halted for over ten minutes as medics attended to Mbavu, who eventually declared he could not continue. The commissioner then stepped forward to make the official announcement:
“Because Mbavu Destroyer cannot continue with the fight, we are now going back to the scorecards. Judge 1: 30 red corners, 27 blue corners. Judge 2: 30 red corners, 27 blue corners. Judge 3: 30 red corners, blue corners 27. The winner by TKO is red corner Portifas Odipo, aka Majembe.”

The declaration sent the crowd into a frenzy, with fans erupting in celebration as they raised Majembe’s hand. Meanwhile, Mbavu was stretchered off the ring, his defeat marking a painful setback after weeks of anticipation.

The 25-year-old worked as a security guard before gaining fame through viral TikTok videos of his unconventional training methods and the viral ‘weka mawe’ phrase.
His journey from street fighting to professional boxing made him a fan favorite, and his aggressive style stood in sharp contrast to Majembe’s measured approach.
