At the moment, Kuta is the only neonatologist at the Agha Khan Hospital Kisumu Branch.

In an interview on NTV, Doctor Elizabeth shared that her role as neonatologist is to treat babies aged from between 0 days to about one month.

“A neonatologist is a sub-specialist who treats babies from 0 days to about one month. Sometimes we extend to about 90 days,” Kuta explained.

Additionally, she expressed her pride in being the first neonatologist in Kisumu, adding that it brought her satisfaction to serve the people in her hometown.

Kuta pursued medicine after her exemplary performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Elizabeth’s Deejaying Venture

After enrolling in a medicine school, Elizabeth’s deejaying venture had to take a backseat until she completed her undergraduate degree in where she reconnected with her passion for music.

“So immediately I finished my undergraduate training, I was looking for a school, but I couldn’t find a school in Kisumu. We went to scout around town looking for a school with my friend, she is called Roselyn. She is one of those, like my number one fans,” she shared.

After identifying a school that would cater for her Deejaying needs, the talented doctor enrolled and was in session for 9 months while still managing to balance the course with her master’s education.

Her passion for music and deejaying championed her to relentlessly see her dream of deejaying come to pass amid tight schedules as a medical student.

‘DJ Branula’

Kuta’s stage name is DJ Branula.

She acknowledged that the stage name was given by her classmates who associated the name with her profession of medicine.

“Our deejaying teacher told us to come up with a stage name. During the discussion group, I asked which name we can use, someone just mentioned DJ Branula,” she said.

“Do you know what Branula is? It is the one we put in the veins to give drugs. So we inject people with music and medicine,” she narrated.

She added that she also referred to herself as DJ Doctor Kuta to remind herself that she was still a DJ.

Elizabeth spoke on how she balances her two ventures saying that when it comes to medicine, she ensures she has distributed enough time for it by devoting herself fully since she has sacrificed a lot to get where she is.

On the same note, she lightly stated that she was thinking of turning her deejaying pursuits into a career and not just a hobby as it was when she started pursuing it.

“It’s been difficult balancing the two, but you somehow find the balance,” she remarked.

Dr. DJ Kuta also uses her position to encourage young teens not to shy away from pursuing their dreams.
