PCEA Mai a Ihii Booth High School in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, has been closed indefinitely over safety concerns following the arrest of its principal.
In a letter dated July 14, 2026, Kikuyu Sub-County Director of Education Jeremiah Kipaiyu said the decision followed an assessment that found the school could no longer operate safely after losing key administrators, including the principal.
“Following an investigative assessment conducted at the school, significant safety concerns were identified stemming from the current absence of key administrative personnel,” Kipaiyu said.

He said the absence of the administrators had affected supervision, student discipline and the day-to-day running of the school.
“Under the present circumstances, the school may be unable to adequately mitigate risks or respond effectively to emergencies and other unforeseen situations,” the letter states.
“Efforts will focus on the deployment of new administrators and the implementation of measures necessary to support a safe and effective resumption of learning activities.”

The closures come after the school principal was arrested on Monday, July 13, after parents reported allegations that he had sexually abused several students.
Police have since charged him with committing an indecent act against a child.
Investigators said the allegations surfaced after several students disclosed to their parents that they had been subjected to inappropriate sexual conduct in the principal’s office.
Police believe the case could involve more than one victim and are following up on information from other students who may have been affected or have information that could assist the investigation.
Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Ndegwa said investigators also arrested the chairperson of the school’s Board of Management after establishing that he had allegedly attempted to interfere with the investigation.
“He (Chairperson) was actually trying to frustrate the investigation, and we felt that we needed to take action against him. We were able to establish that last week was the climax of the whole event. This thing has been happening in the background,” Ndegwa said.
“The school principal was the one who was involved with the touching of these boys inappropriately.”
The Board chairperson was charged with obstruction of justice after allegedly attempting to have the matter resolved outside the legal process.

This comes as some students have confided in their parents about what they claim happened inside the principal’s office.
The parents reported the allegations to the police, prompting investigations.
Affected students have since received counseling, but some parents have expressed concern about sending their children back to school before investigations are completed.
Detectives are continuing to record statements from students, teachers and other witnesses as they seek to establish whether there are more victims.
