Ali Nuno Dubat is a Kenyan police commander who has built a strong reputation for his tough, fearless, and straightforward approach to fighting crime.
He has worked in the police service for more than 30 years, serving in very challenging areas like Kayole, Murang’a, Kwale, and the entire Coast region. In 2018, he received the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) award for his hard work and dedication.
Ali Nuno’s Career Journey
Ali Nuno became widely known when he served as the OCPD Kayole in 2016. At that time, Nairobi’s Eastlands area was suffering from attacks by the Gaza gang, a group of armed teenagers active between 2015 and 2017.
Nuno used a two-way approach, offering amnesty to gang members willing to surrender, but he also allowed shoot-to-kill action against those who refused to hand over illegal guns.
This approach worked in June 2015, over 60 members of the Gaza gang surrendered, weakening the gang and eventually leading to its collapse.
He later served in Kiambu County and Thika, where he targeted criminal hideouts in the Kiandutu slums. He issued strong warnings to criminals and disrupted gang recruitment among youth.
Between 2022 and 2023, he worked as the Murang’a County Police Commander, where he successfully oversaw the peaceful Kandara by-elections in January 2023.

In early 2024, he briefly served as the Director of Corporate Communications at the National Police Service Headquarters before returning to field operations.
He was then posted to Kwale County as the County Police Commander, where he fought terrorism and criminal gangs. In March 2025, he led a major drug‑trafficking crackdown in Kilifi, arresting 13 suspects and seizing various narcotics.
His consistent results in tough areas led to his promotion as the Coast Regional Police Commander in January 2025.
Education, Career, Family, Age, and Net Worth
Although Ali Nuno is a public figure, his age, education, family background, and net worth have never been disclosed publicly.
This is common for senior police officers because sharing such information can put them and their families in danger, especially since they deal with violent criminals.

Role at the Coast
As the Coast Regional Police Commander, Nuno is responsible for security in Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and nearby regions. He is known for visiting police stations impromptu, sometimes pretending to be an ordinary citizen, just to see how officers treat the public.
He regularly talks to communities, warning criminals to stop and advising young people to leave gangs.
On 7 February 2026, he gave one of his strongest orders, a shoot-to-kill directive against the “Panga Boys” and other machete-carrying gangs causing violence across the Coast.
This came after an increase in robberies and brutal panga attacks in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, with a firm message to stop committing crimes, surrender, or leave the Coast region.
Leadership Style
Nuno is known for being direct, bold, and very active in the field. He likes visiting crime-prone areas himself rather than sitting in an office. He moves fast when dealing with criminals, but he also encourages young people to reform by attending community meetings and offering second chances.
