Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza on Thursday, November 16 said she is ready for a dissolution of the County Government.
This came following a petition by 22 Meru residents seeking to impeach the county executive committee members (CECs), county secretary and the chief of staff.
An insider who spoke to The Kenya Times, stated that the MCAs have decided to back governor Mwangaza in her quest to have the county assembly dissolved.
According to reports by the insider, the governor had failed to lead them and could not even have a conversation with her deputy and other leaders to come to amicable solutions.
“We are not scared of the governor because it seems she is not able to lead. She does not want to consult with her deputy and other leaders so maybe that is the best solution,” said the insider.
Meru MCAs Remarks on By Election
Further, the MCAs now believe that dissolving the county assembly is the best option as the embattled governor has reportedly begun a signature collection exercise towards the dissolution process.

Likewise, sources noted that the move to collect signatures was okay, adding that MCAs are ready to go for the election’s whether they lose their seats or win.
“We heard her speaking about collecting signatures while speaking on Baite Radio and we are fine with it. If it goes through, let us have a by-election and allow those who will survive to survive,” the insider told The Kenya Times.

“Those who lose can move on with their lives, as long as we serve the people of Meru well. That is all that matters,” he added.
Petition Over the Impeachment of County Officials
On the other hand, 22 Meru residents filed a petition at the County Assembly seeking to impeach executive committee members of Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s Cabinet for allegedly violating the Constitution and statutory laws.
In the petition filed on Wednesday 15th November, the petitioners have cited several grounds upon which they want the County Secretary and Secretary to the Cabinet, six County Executive Committee members, three chief officers and the Chief of Staff sent packing.

Among the facts relied upon is the defense Governor Mwangaza presented in the Senate during the failed impeachment attempt against her in early November 2023.
“She consistently put a defense on the accusations levelled against her and blamed all the constitutional and statutory laws violations on her junior officers in the executive,” the petitioners said.
Furthermore, the petitioners argued that the said officials interfered with the county health facilities, used derogatory remarks against Deputy Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia among other accusations.
Nonetheless, Governor Kawira Mwangaza on November 16 said she would support the petitioners in their bid to dissolve the county government.
“If dissolution is how Meru residents will get help, I will support them,” she said.
