It focuses on assessing both academic and practical skills.
KPSEA is organized in two parts: formative and summative tests.
Formative Assessment is a continuous evaluation by teachers during Grades 4, 5, and 6.
It accounts for 60% of the final score.
On the other hand, summative assessment is a national assessment conducted at the end of Grade 6 by KNEC, contributing 40% to the final score.
KPSEA marks the end of the primary circle under the CBC system with learners moving to Junior Secondary School (JSS) in Grade 7 in 2025.

KILEA Exams
The Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) is a national assessment administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) under the Competency-Based Curriculum framework. It is designed to assess learners at the intermediate level of basic education.
KILEA evaluates learners’ competencies, skills, and knowledge across prescribed learning areas. The assessment focuses on measuring practical abilities, understanding, and application rather than rote memorization.
The results are used to inform learners, parents, and schools on academic progress and readiness for the next stage of education.
