Moses Kuria, a senior advisor within President William Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisors (CEA), has likened the upcoming 2027 contest to the 2002 elections.
Speaking on Citizen TV on June 22, Kuria said leaders in the contention for the country’s top seat will reach a consensus on who to endorse before the vote, just like in 2002.
“Let me shock you,” Kuria said. “Some people are training for a football match that will not happen.”
Kuria believes 2027 will not have the usual election fight. Instead, he said there will be a national agreement to avoid chaos and save the country.
“2027 will be like 2002,” he said. “There will be no presidential election. There will be a consensus.”
Moses Kuria on 2027 Elections
Kuria said the 2002 election was a done deal by the time the country went to the ballot, with Mwai Kibaki already accepted by most.
“Have you ever seen that margin again?” he asked.

The former Cabinet Secretary added that today’s political players should not expect a repeat of 2013 or 2017.
“There’s not going to be that kind of presidential contest,” he said.
“Some people are training for football, but it will be a tennis match.”
He added that leaders will have to sit down and agree on how to move forward.
“We have two options: go out one day and destroy the nation, or let’s agree,” he said.
“Let there be honor among men and women.”
Kuria also said he is accepted across the country, not just in his home region.
“I can do a rally in any part of this country without the local MP,” he said.
“I’m a villager in every part of the country, Garissa, Wajir, wherever.”
He said that is the kind of democracy he fought for.
Kuria’s comments come at a time when politicians have started regrouping as the conversation around the 2027 elections grows. While some leaders prepare for a tough race, Kuria is calling for peace and unity instead.
