Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed that Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni promised to give Azimio leader Raila Odinga 50 heads of his Ankole cows.
To put into context, one of Museveni’s Ankole bulls sold for 120,000 US dollars (Ksh15million then), in July 2022. Meaning that 50 of the same bulls could sell for Ksh750 million.
Further, Musyoka lightly said that he would accompany the Azimio leader for his next visit in case there was a chance he could get two bulls, although he was unsure, they would survive in his home county.
“I asked my brother ‘how many cows did Museveni give you, those Ankole cows’. And he told me he promised 50. Next time I will accompany you, if there is a chance I can get 2. But I don’t know whether they can survive in Ukambani,” he said.
Museveni’s Ankole Bulls Worth
The bull sold for Ksh15million was bought by South African billionaire businessman and football administrator Patrice Motsepe from President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The bull named Fafa, was among 43 others bought from Museveni’s Kisozi Ranch herd by Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa developed an interest in Ankole breeding in 2004 during his visit to Uganda to meet President Yoweri Museveni.

To adhere to disease control regulations by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, he opted for artificial insemination technology and embryo quarantine procedures when acquiring and importing 43 Ankole cows from Uganda.
“Motsepe of the Confederation of African Football Association, only the other day came to tell me about football affairs. He also told me that, recently, he bought an Ankole bull from H.E. Ramaphosa, who bought 43 cows from me some years ago, at the price of USD 120,000 (One Hundred and Twenty Thousand United States Dollars) for that bull,” Museveni said then.
Although the buying price had set a record, in the previous year, a five-year bull from the same ranch and heard sold for Ksh6 million.
Museveni on Why Ankole Cows are a Superior Breed
According to the Ugandan president, the breed was on high demand abroad because they have the safest beef, and their milk is low on cholesterol.
“These cattle are, apparently, in high demand abroad. Why? On account of what we found out long ago, but which was not publicized enough. They have the best and safest beef. Why? They are the only cattle with yellow fat, which is low in cholesterol.
“All the other cattle have white fat that has cholesterol. Their milk has also got better cream,” he said.

Kalonzo on Raila’s AU Bid
Also, Kalonzo made an appeal to Kenyans to refrain from propaganda on Raila’s bid for the chairmanship position at the African Union.
He explained that it was not given that the opposition leader would get the post, adding that he needed support to fight for the position.
“The name recognition is his biggest asset and I know the East African region will give him support. This is not just given; we have to fight for it. Our brother has to fight for it. Let us not just assume that he will just get it. There could be other candidates.
“But we believe as a region we have the best candidate. Stop speculation. We are calling on Kenyans to relax about this matter. We have seen unhealthy conversation about this even in the local media,” he said.
