Music Copyright Society of Kenya CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has defended First Lady Rachel Ruto after she invited US-based Televangelist Benny Hinn for a government-sponsored crusade in Kenya.
The announcement of this invitation during one of Hinn’s live services sparked widespread criticism and discussions among Kenyans.
Hinn, visibly taken aback, revealed, “Something amazing happened. The First Lady of Kenya flew from Nairobi together with her aides just for one reason; to ask me to come back to Nairobi for a nationwide government-sponsored crusade.”
One online critic voiced their disapproval, saying, “Mama Rachel Ruto will waste millions of taxpayers’ money to host Benny Hinn in a crusade to pray for Kenya.”

Mutua Defense
On his part Dr. Mutua urged Kenyans not to overreact, pointing out that other First Ladies have supported various causes without facing such intense scrutiny.
“So, what if the First Lady Mama Rachael Ruto invites Benny Hinn to preach in Kenya? She’s a Christian and she’s pushing God’s Kingdom agenda the best way she knows how.
Other First Ladies who support other ideals push their agendas, some including LGBTQ, and no one makes noise about it. Let’s not make a mountain out of a mole hill,” Dr Mutua stated.
However, Mutua’s defense did not sit well with some Kenyans.
A disgruntled social media user commented, “Give us a break! You don’t need to be supporting everything in the name of being a Christian.”
Mutua, unshaken by the backlash, retorted: “You can go support the devil on your wall!”
“Don’t mind about the bitter, miserable souls whose calling is to oppose and berate others.
That is not an easy life to live. Thank God you are on the side that appreciates life and can see God’s blessings even in the midst of a storm. It’s called a life of gratitude!”

Rachel vs Margaret Kenyatta
Benny Hinn’s invitation also saw Kenyans draw comparisons between the current First Lady and her predecessor, former Margaret Kenyatta.
Some Kenyans praised Kenyatta for some of her initiatives during her time in State House.
“Former First Lady Margret Kenyatta came up with the ‘Beyond Zero’ campaign which aimed to improve maternal healthcare. Meanwhile Mama Rachel Ruto is using government funds to invite pastor Benny Hinn,” reacted a user on X.
