Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga has come under criticism on social media after appearing to take issue with coverage by Standard Group, her former employer.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, June 25, Chidzuga wrote, “Far below the standard of journalism,” in an apparent reference to the media house’s online feud with her current employer, President William Ruto
The remarks quickly attracted responses from users, some of whom accused her of unfairly criticizing the media organization where she spent years as a news anchor at KTN, a television station owned by Standard Group.
Several users referenced her previous career in journalism, with some questioning her criticism of the media house and others linking her current role in government to her comments.

Her Career at Standard Group
Chidzuga’s career is closely linked to Standard Group, where she built her profile as a television journalist and presenter.
Chidzuga’s transition from radio to television came after she received a call from then Kenya Television Network (KTN) executive Farida Karoney, who called her for an interview at the media company.
She joined KTN and became one of the station’s recognizable faces, helping establish herself in Kenya’s media industry.
However, in 2016, she was dismissed from the Standard Group-owned station minutes before going live with a new show Maisha na Isha, as part of a restructuring exercise by the company.

Ruto and Standard Group Feud
Tensions between President William Ruto and Standard Media Group escalated dramatically this week, spilling into the public domain through a series of sharp exchanges that have intensified scrutiny of the relationship between the government and the media.
On June 24, 2026, President William Ruto posted a strongly worded statement on his official X account, directly targeting Gideon Moi, the KANU chairman and principal shareholder of Standard Group.
Ruto accused the media house of using its critical front-page coverage to pursue what he termed “extortionist propaganda” driven by greed. He further challenged the publication to intensify its criticism, declaring that it could “try 8 days a week”.
