The Nairobi County Government has announced mass registration of qualified plumbers and drain layers, with successful applicants set to be incorporated into the County Public Service.
Nairobi County Secretary and head of County Public Service Patrick Analo Akivaga in a public notice dated April 17, 2024, announced the registration of examinations for licenses and listed the minimum qualifications that must be met by applicants.
The applicants according to the notice must possess either Government Grade II or Government Grade III Trade Tests.
“The minimum qualification for the applicants should be Government Grade II Trade Test or acceptable equivalent qualifications or above with over 3 years hands-on experience in the discipline,” read part of the notice.
According to the notice, those with Grade III Trade Test and over five (5) years’ experience will be considered.
Deadline and How to Apply
The County head of public service further listed the deadline date for application and the dates when the exercise is set to be undertaken.

The last day of application will be on 30th April 2024 with the registration of licenses set to be conducted on 2nd & 3rd July 2024.
Furthermore, the applicants can submit their application forms together with the relevant attachments at City Hall Annex, 1st Floor, Development Control Section.
The notice further directed the applicants to obtain more information on the registration exercise from the same mentioned office during normal working hours.
Successful applicants will have their licenses registered by the County government and enable them to embark on services such as assembling, installing and repairing pipes, drains, fixtures and fittings that supply water or remove waste.
Nairobi County Passes Artisan Motion
The announcement comes after the Nairobi County Assembly passed the Virtual Artisan Bureau motion which is set to benefit the County, artisans and residents.

This motion aims to minimize the hustle suffered by City residents accessing services from artisan experts including plumbers.
Once implemented, the motion which was tabled by Clay City Ward representative Mwaura Samora will allow city residents to easily find artisans.
According to Mwaura, the experts and their services will be accessed by City residents from the registered and vetted service providers of a formal County portal system.
“Virtual Services Bureau will allow city residents to remotely access, inquire and seek artisan services such as Plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, and painting among others,” Mwaura explained.
He added that through the County portal platform, the sector will be organized and ensure that they offer the best services.
Furthermore, the County legislator noted that the platform will be a source of income for the artisans and a source of revenue for the county government.
The county according to Mwaura will introduce charges before uploading someone’s business to the platform.
