Traffic disruption is expected on major Nairobi roads on Saturday, 23rd May 2026, during the Mater Heart Run event.

The early-morning road race is expected to run for four hours, during which selected routes will experience partial closures and controlled diversions that will affect normal traffic flow across parts of the city.

“The Mater Heart Run 2026 takes place on Saturday 23″ May 2026 starting at The Kenyatta International Convention Centre(K.I.C.C.) as from 0700 hours and expected to end at 1100 hours. This is to notify the public that normal traffic flow will therefore be partially interrupted,” read the notice.

Several key corridors in Nairobi will be temporarily affected during the race activities.    The organization has also stated that traffic police officers will be deployed at junctions and roundabouts at the listed roads where the race will take place to enable the smooth flow of traffic. Motorists have been urged to use alternative routes to avoid inconveniences.

“Traffic police officers will be deployed at affected junctions and roundabouts along the listed roads to enable smooth flow of traffic. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes on the event date and time to avoid inconveniences,” read the statement in part.

During the event, traffic movement on selected roads will be restricted for several hours, depending on the progress of the race.

Once runners clear specific sections, roads will be reopened progressively across different parts of the city.

Affected Roads and Key Zones

The disruption will mainly affect routes connected to Lang’ata, Uhuru Gardens, the Industrial Area, and parts of the Central Business District(CBD).

  • Mbagathi Way
  • Raila Odinga Way
  • Aerodrome Road
  • Enterprise Road
  • Likoni Road
  • Bunyala Road
  • Parliament Road
  • City Mortuary Roundabout

Lang’ata and Uhuru Gardens will serve as the main race route, where significant congestion is expected due to assembly points and event coordination activities.

In the Industrial Area, Enterprise Road, Likoni Road, and Bunyala Road are expected to experience diversions.

CBD-linked routes, such as Parliament Road and the City Mortuary Roundabout, will also experience intermittent closures.

Ongoing Ngong Road Closure

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) issued a public notice announcing a partial road closure along Ngong Road/Naivasha Road.

According to the notice issued on May 17, KURA stated that a section of Ngong Road / Naivasha Road at the Junction Mall will be partially closed.

The closure started from Monday, 18 May 2026, to Sunday, 31 May 2026, inclusive. According to the notice, the affected section will be closed during night hours from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
The closure is intended to facilitate asphalt works during the final finishing stage of ongoing road construction.
