Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s convoy was attacked by a group of goons on Friday, March 7, after visiting the rural home of the late IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati in Sabata, Kiminini Constituency.
Speaking to The Kenya Times, witnesses reported that the attack took place as Natambeya was leaving Chebukati’s home, when goons started hurling stones at his convoy.
One driver assigned to the governor, Kaitano Siphas, sustained serious neck injuries as he shielded the governor from a direct hit.
Additionally, two bodyguards attached to the governor were injured, and are currently receiving medical treatment. The governor’s vehicle was damaged during the incident.
Natembeya Attacked Again by Goons Barely a Week
Preliminary reports indicate that the goons who attacked Natambeya’s convoy were hired by senior politicians from Trans Nzoia County and leaders from the neighboring Bungoma County.
This comes on the back of several incidents of violence witnessed in the western region due as politicians jostle to settle political scores.
In response, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi issued guidelines on March 6 for mourners attending the funeral of the former IEBC chair, which is set for Saturday, March 8, 2025.

The Commissioner emphasized that mourners should refrain from wearing political regalia and should not cheer or jeer during the funeral.
“I want to tell all leaders to communicate with their supporters because this is not a political event, but a burial. We will not allow any group to cheer for their leaders during this event,” stated the County Commissioner.
Trans Nzoia Governor Attacked at the Late Malava MP’s Home
The attack on Natambeya has occurred barely a week after a similar incident occurred on Sunday March 2, when drama unfolded at the home of the late Malava Member of Parliament, Malulu Injendi.
While addressing residents gathered at the MP’s home, Governor Natambeya faced a rowdy group of youths who interrupted his speech by chanting pro-President William Ruto slogans and accusing him of opposing the government.

The situation quickly escalated as the youths became more aggressive, demanding that Natambeya stop speaking. As they moved closer to the governor, his security team acted swiftly, leading to his quick evacuation to his vehicle amid the growing hostility.
