Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has criticized National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula for what he called letting President William Ruto down.
Natembeya while addressing Trans Nzoia residents said Ruto was waiting for Wetang’ula to advise him after the controversial Finance Bill was taken to Parliament, but he chose to pass it as it was without considering the voice of the people.
“People like Wetang’ula, we don’t want them anymore. We reject them. When the Finance Bill 2024 was presented in parliament, the President was expecting proper advice. However, when they were called to parliament, they pledged to do whatever the President wanted,” Natembeya said.
“After things turned messy and President Ruto refused to sign the bill, they applauded and claimed he made the right decision.”
Natembeya Slams Wetang’ula
He pointed out that there are no leaders in the country who understand how the common mwananchi lives, as they impose more taxes while seemingly living in their own world.
Natembeya also alleged that Wetang’ula and other leaders now fear returning home to face their villagers after their decisions that angered many.

He lauded the Gen Z protests stating that next time, leaders will be consulting their constituents on their priorities and the government’s proposals through public participation before making decisions at the cost of Kenyans.
“They will be voting on parliamentary bills comfortably and telling the President that they are voting, but their people have said ‘tawe’ (no),” Natembeya remarked.
Furthermore, the county boss alleged that people chose Wetang’ula and other leaders to represent them, but they are full of fear.
“The time for being lied to and scared by leaders is long gone. Saying that if you don’t choose me, you will be done, is over,” he stated.
Rift Between the Governor and the Speaker
The battle for political supremacy between Moses Wetang’ula and George Natembeya is heating up as leaders mobilize ahead of the 2027 general election, seeking the necessary support for alliance building.
Natembeya, known for being a no-nonsense former public administrator, is the founder of the Tawe (Enough is Enough) movement.
This movement has challenged Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya party, which has traditionally maintained a stronghold in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties.
This is not just a battle of words, but a manifestation of the deep-rooted divisions created by this power struggle challenging Moses Wetangula’s seasoned reign.

Commentators have termed it a clash between the Speaker’s established legacy and Natembeya’s promise of new leadership in a showdown that could shift the balance of political power, making Wetang’ula’s control over his political domain seem more uncertain.
