The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has scheduled the dates for publishing recruitment adverts and for reporting of 10,000 new police recruits.
NPSC CEO Peter Leley, while appearing before the National Assembly Security Committee on Tuesday, September 9, said the commission proposes to publish recruitment adverts on Thursday, September 11.
He added that recruits are expected to report to the Police training colleges on November 17.
The NPSC seeks to recruit 10,000 police constables under new regulations designed to promote transparency after past exercises were marred by complaints of bribery, favoritism, and bias.

For the first time, the exercise will be conducted entirely online, with applicants required to submit their details virtually.
Out of the 10,000 slots, 4,000 have been reserved for National Youth Service (NYS) graduates.
“Our target with the planned recruitment of 10,000 police constables is to ensure the process is conducted with transparency, fairness, integrity, inclusivity, and full legality,” he said.

At the same time, Leley said measures have been put in place to guarantee fairness, including the use of independent observers and digital tools.
“We have independent observers to ensure compliance and avoid malpractices. We are also leveraging digital tools for applications, candidate verification to minimize human errors, and safeguards to ensure gender balance, regional equity, and ethnic diversity,” Leley said.
He added that the recruitment will target underrepresented and marginalized communities in line with affirmative action policies.
“The recruitment aims to include underrepresented and marginalized communities to promote inclusivity, strengthen the allocation formula, and enhance legitimacy,” he told MPs.
Leley further stated that the commission had engaged key stakeholders, including the Interior Cabinet Secretary, whose input has been factored into the allocation framework for the exercise.

This comes after NPSC, in a statement on September 5, announced the adoption of the National Police Service Commission (Recruitment and Appointment) Regulations, 2025, which will govern the exercise.
The commission also approved a comprehensive roadmap and instruments to facilitate the immediate commencement of the recruitment process.
The roadmap outlines critical stages, including the advertisement of vacancies, shortlisting, and the final selection of successful candidates, who will later report to designated training colleges.
NPSC said the proposed regulations are intended to streamline recruitment by enhancing transparency and ensuring merit-based selection.
To fast-track the exercise, the commission approved a roadmap detailing key stages, from the advertisement of vacancies to the final selection of successful candidates, who will then report to training colleges.
“At the meeting, the commission deliberated on the upcoming recruitment of 10,000 police constables. To strengthen the recruitment process, the commission adopted the National Police Service Commission (Recruitment and Appointment) Regulations, 2025, which will guide the exercise,” the statement read.
