Motorists and commuters should plan ahead and consider alternative routes, as the road closures will begin early in the morning and continue until after midday when the race concludes.
Nine roads in Nairobi, including Uhuru Highway, will be closed on Sunday, September 29, ahead of the Jubilee Insurance Live Free Cycling Race.
The closure of the roads will last for 13 hours, starting from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The organizers have released a comprehensive route map detailing the roads that will be closed during the event.
“Road closure announcement. Heads up! The Jubilee Live Free Race is happening this Sunday, 29th September, several major roads will be closed for the duration of the event,” Jubilee insurance said.
“Key junctions and Nyayo Stadium will also be affected. Please plan your routes early to avoid disruptions. Thank you for your support.”
Uhuru Highway Among Nine Roads to be Closed
Roads to affected will include Lang’ata Road, Bunyala Road, and Haile Sellasie Avenue up to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Building, as well as Uhuru Highway from Haile Sellasie Avenue to Nyayo Stadium.
Additionally, Masaba Road to Bunyala Road and the Donbosco roundabout to Hill Park Hotel will remain closed during this period.
Other roads to be closed will include Madaraka Roundabout, the Southern Bypass (from the Lang’ata entry to Ngong and Mombasa Road), and the stretch from Nairobi West to Madaraka Roundabout.

Traffic disruptions are expected around the race’s start and finish line, particularly in the Nairobi West and Lang’ata areas.
Public transport routes passing through the affected areas may also face delays, so commuters should prepare for possible detours during the event.
Additionally, the roads will be manned by police officers at the affected junctions and roundabouts to control traffic.
About the Jubilee Insurance Live Free Cycling Competition
The international premier cycling event will bring together up to 2,500 elite cyclists from 21 countries including Ethiopia, Eritrea, USA, France and the East African Community, for an intense and adrenaline-fueled competition right at the heart of Nairobi City.
It will kick off at Uhuru Highway, just outside Nyayo Stadium, 200 meters from Bunyala Roundabout. It features a main race covering a distance of 60 kilometers, consisting of four laps.
