A police officer has been confirmed dead and several others left nursing injuries following a road accident involving a police vehicle at Kambi Nyoka area in Marsabit County.
The officer died in the April 13, 2024, morning accident which reports indicate happened after the vehicle he was travelling in veered off the Marsabit-Moyale Highway.
According to a police statement, the deceased officer was behind the wheel when the accident occurred.
Additionally, seven other passengers including three officers on board, survived with injuries.
In photos seen by The Kenya Times, the overturned police vehicle could be seen alongside a number of different items scattered all over indicating the impact of the accident.
However, by the time of publishing this article, it was not yet clear what could have led to the accident.
Officer crushed by trailer
This incident comes just a day after another officer lost his life in an accident involving a trailer and several motorbikes.

Attached to Fort Tenan Police station, the officer was riding one of the motorbikes while on leave in Kakamega county when the accident happened.
He was killed on the spot after the trailer rammed into the two motorbikes.
Following the accident, the driver of the trailer fled the scene immediately with Police officers launching a manhunt for the driver.

Limuru sub-county police commander Philip Mwania died instantly after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry.
Kitui County Commander Leah Kithei confirmed the accident that led to the demise of the senior superintendent of police (SSP), which happened just a few kilometers from Kitui town.

“He was driving towards Chuluni from Kitui general direction and on reaching the location of the accident he lost control of the motor vehicle and swerved to the opposite lane where he collided head-on with the said lorry which was being driven to the opposite direction,” read part of a police report.

Latest data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that about 1,214 lives have been lost in road accidents between January 1 and April 1, 2024.
According to the data, this is a significant rise compared to the same period last year, with fatalities increasing by five per cent.
The statistics revealed by NTSA Deputy Director, Safety, Audit and Inspection Eng Christine Ogut showed that pedestrians account for the largest number of fatalities.
