President William Ruto has appointed former Cabinet Secretary (CS) Farida Karoney, former Narok Governor Samuel Tunai and former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera to three government roles.
In a gazette notice on August 23, 2024, the President appointed former Lands CS Faridah Karoney as the new chairperson of the National Lottery Board for a period of three years.
Karoney served as the Lands Cabinet Secretary during the tenure of former President Uhuru Kenyatta who appointed her in January 2018.
Prior to her appointment as a CS, she served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Royal Media Services (RMS).
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 5 (1) (a) of the National Lottery Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint FARIDA KARONEY to be a Chairperson of the National Lottery Board, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 23rd August, 2024,” the notice reads in part.
At the same time, President Ruto appointed former PS Irungu Nyakera and former Narok County governor Samuel Tunai to new roles.
Nyakera Appointed
The Head of State appointed Irungu Nyakera to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for a period of three years with effect immediately.

Following the former PS’s new role as the KICC Board of Directors chairperson, the appointment of Adelina Mwau was revoked by the Head of State.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 43 (1) (a) of the Tourism Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, 1, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint IRUNGU NYAKERA to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 23rd August, 2024. The appointment of Adelina Mwau is revoked,” read part of the notice.
Nyakera who has previously served as the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Transport had been appointed as the KEMSA Board chair in May 2023.

His appointment came following the revocation of Daniel Rono’s appointment who had been holding the same role since March 2023.
Ruto Appoints new KEMSA Board Chair
At the same time, Ruto while announcing Nyakera’s appointment as the new KICC board chairperson noted that his appointment as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of KEMSA has been revoked.
The Head of State in turn appointed former Narok Governor Samuel Tunai to replace him as the new KEMSA Board chair for a period of three years.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 5 (1) (a) of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in- Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint SAMUEL TUNAI as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 23rd August, 2024. The appointment of Irungu Nyakera is revoked.”
