His declining health coincides with that of Prince Y. Johnson, who fell ill and passed away as efforts to establish the WECC progressed.
Johnson, widely known for his involvement in the brutal execution of President Samuel Doe, had long been an influential figure in Liberian politics.
Another former rebel leader whose health is deteriorating is Sekou Damate Konneh. The former leader of the Liberia United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) is reportedly in poor health.
Several media reports indicate that Konneh has been seen looking very frail and is believed to be suffering from the effects of a stroke.
