Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has put President William Ruto on notice after Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera conceded defeat.
In a statement dated Thursday, September 23, 2025, while congratulating Malawi’s newly elected president, Gachagua urged Kenyans to learn from Malawi and ensure that President William Ruto is not re-elected in the upcoming general elections.
“From Idi Amin to Mobutu, from Bokassa to Mugabe, the era of oligarchy and strongmen has collapsed under the weight of people’s power on the ballot.
Kenya is equally watching, ahead of the 2027 General Elections, and Kenyans are wise people. I call on the people of the Republic of Kenya to draw strength from Malawi’s courage and exercise their sovereign power. Just like our Malawian brothers and sisters, we must reject fear and cynicism, reject hopelessness, and reclaim our future through democratic means,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua Warns Ruto of Suffering a Similar Fate as Malawi’s Incumbent President
Additionally, Gachagua described the election of President-elect Prof. Peter Mutharika, the 7th President of the Republic of Malawi, as a historic victory too consequential in the future of African politics to be ignored.
He noted that the election was more than a national triumph for Malawi, calling it a continental statement and a declaration that Africa is no longer a playground for religious hypocrisy, conmanship, corruption, pathological lies, dictatorship, and self-serving regimes.

Gachagua further stated that the people of Malawi had demonstrated that the ballot remains the most powerful tool of liberation when governments fail to listen to their citizens, indirectly warning that President William Ruto could face a similar fate.
“To those clinging to power through lies, state-sponsored violence and propaganda, religious hypocrisy, tribal manipulation and arithmetic, goonish tendencies, abuse of constitutions, and state capture; the bells are ringing,” he warned.
Malawi President Concedes Defeat
At the same time, Gachagua congratulated the President-elect, describing his victory as a beacon of hope for all those still waiting for justice, dignity, real leadership, and liberation.
“Congratulations once again, H.E. President-elect Prof. Peter Mutharika. Your victory is Africa’s victory. H.E. President Chakwera, you have demonstrated great maturity by conceding defeat and extending congratulations to President-elect Prof. Mutharika. The will of the people is supreme. WANTAM IS A REALITY!” the former DP said.
