A Safaricom SIM card is essential for making phone calls, staying connected with friends and family, and carrying out transactions through M-PESA.
Losing your SIM card can disrupt access to these vital services, whether the loss is due to theft or misplacement.
Fortunately, Safaricom has outlined procedures to help users replace their SIM cards.
This article explores ways one can use to replace their or lost SIM card.

Replacing Your SIM at a Safaricom Outlet
To replace your lost SIM card, visit any Safaricom retail shop, authorized dealer, or agent with your original, valid identification document, you should carry a valid Kenyan National ID or Passport used to register the SIM card
This process, known as a SIM swap, is done in person for security reasons to prevent fraud.
When you arrive, request that your lost line be blocked immediately to prevent unauthorized access.
This protects one from possible fraudulent activities such as people close to the user from being conned.
After one is issued a new SIM card, the line will be reactivated upon his or her request.
During the SIM card replacement process, the agent will require you to confirm your ownership. You may be asked to provide details such as:
- Frequently called numbers.
- Recent M-PESA transaction details and current M-PESA balance.
- Information on M-Shwari or Fuliza loan limits.
Once verified, the agent will process the SIM swap. Your lost number will be transferred to the new SIM card, and a replacement fee of Ksh 100 may apply.
After the replacement, you’ll need to reactivate your M-PESA account, and your funds will remain intact throughout the process.
