Jaoko Oburu Biography
Jaoko Oburu is the son of Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga and a nephew of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He was first married to Tia Gosman from the Bahamas in 2003, and together they had two children.
However, the two later parted ways, and Jaoko subsequently remarried. From his second union, he has a son and two daughters.
Currently, Jaoko serves as the Special Advisor on Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihoods to President William Ruto, following his appointment on April 22, 2025.
His work involves collaborating with government agencies and private-sector partners to promote economic inclusion and create opportunities for Kenyan youth and marginalized communities.
Previous Roles
He previously served as the Siaya County Executive Committee Member for Roads and Public Works under former Governor Cornel Rasanga.
Before his appointment to the national government, Jaoko also served as the Investment and Resource Mobilization Adviser at the Siaya County Government, where he oversaw the identification and attraction of local and international investment and resource mobilization opportunities for the county.

Some of his key interests include developing the capacity of local communities for sustainable small-scale commercial aquaculture.
He has been actively involved in building the capacity of small-scale farmers through training and extension services to promote sustainable aquaculture enterprises.
Political Activities
In 2013, Jaoko took on active political roles ahead of the general elections. He was part of the youthful team that formed the Friends of Raila pressure group.
Over the years, he has been politically active, campaigning for his late uncle, Raila Odinga.

During the 2022 presidential campaign, he was part of the Azimio Young Turks, a youth mobilization umbrella that campaigned for the former Prime Minister.
He also served as the Global Chair of Friends of Baba Africa (FOBA), a lobby group that supported Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position.
Education
Jaoko holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Saint Mary’s University in Canada, where he graduated with honors.
He pursued his primary and secondary education in Zimbabwe, attending Voinona Primary School, Voinona Secondary School, and later Prince Edward School for his high school studies.
