The County Chairman of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Makadara Member of Parliament, George Aladwa, has claimed that Edwin Sifuna’s days as the party’s Secretary General are numbered.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, February 22, Aladwa stated that Sifuna will soon be ousted from his position, just like his predecessor, Ababu Namwamba.

“I want to warn Sifuna, who may call himself the Secretary General of ODM. We’ve had many secretaries general before—he’s not the first. Ababu left, and he will leave just like Ababu did. Sifuna, I’m telling you, your days in ODM are numbered,” Aladwa said.
The Makadara legislator accused Sifuna of collaborating with ODM’s perceived political rivals, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He also claimed that Sifuna is positioning himself as Gachagua’s preferred candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

“Even during Gachagua’s impeachment process, he stirred trouble. He reluctantly voted for Gachagua’s impeachment in the Senate. We know that, as of now, he is Gachagua’s preferred candidate for the governor’s seat. Sifuna, who calls himself the Secretary General of ODM, is Gachagua’s candidate,” Aladwa alleged.

Aladwa further accused Sifuna of recently holding meetings with Gachagua and his allies, including Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

He cited a recent church service in Kawangware, where Sifuna was seen fellowshipping alongside the former deputy president and Kalonzo.

Additionally, Aladwa wished Sifuna well as he prepared to “depart” from the party.
“We wish him all the best. I believe he has already left ODM, so he should stop pretending to be the Secretary-General,” the Makadara legislator said.
For some time, political divisions have been simmering within the ODM party due to differing opinions on whether to support President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s broad-based government, or to champion ODM ideals.
Nyong’o Says Raila Should Not Be Involved in Fixing Government Mess Every Time
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been a vocal critic of the broad-based government, a stance that has put him at odds with some top-party officials. Proponents of the broad-based government within ODM are reportedly pushing for his removal from the party.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma recently remarked that “you cannot love Baba and Gachagua at the same time,” implying that Sifuna is an ally of Gachagua.
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai also criticized the Nairobi Senator for what he termed as “lecturing ODM politicians allied to Ruto,” labelling them as sycophants during the burial of Roselyn Odede, a human rights champion. Alai even threatened to initiate Sifuna’s removal from the party.

However, several politicians, including interim party leader Anyang’ Nyong’o, have come to Sifuna’s defence.
During the funeral of Professor Bethwell Ogot, Nyong’o stated that it is not the responsibility of the ODM party leader to resolve issues caused by the government’s own actions.
