The United Kingdom, through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), has issued a security and travel advisory to its nationals ahead of the by-elections scheduled to take place in Kenya on November 27, 2025.
In a notice dated November 24, 2025, the FCDO warned British citizens to exercise caution during the election period.
“Kenya will hold by-elections in 24 constituencies across the country on 27 November. Protests and demonstrations are possible. Stay away from political rallies and related activities,” the advisory stated.
According to the advisory, protests, demonstrations, and strikes are common in Kenya, particularly in Nairobi, and often lead to traffic disruption and occasional violence. The FCDO noted that several demonstrators have been injured or killed in recent years and warned that the security situation can change rapidly, especially around key political dates, such as the anniversary of the Finance Bill protests that took place in June and July 2024.
The advisory urged British nationals to stay away from political gatherings and large crowds, monitor local media to track potential protest hotspots, and follow local news updates and instructions issued by Kenyan authorities closely.
