The family of Brian Odhiambo, who went missing in January 2025 after allegedly being seen in the custody of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers, has stated that the body retrieved from Lake Nakuru National Park on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, is not his.
Initially, Brian’s family had hoped that the body discovered in the lake might be his.
However, after viewing the body at Kwa Jack Mortuary in Nakuru, their hopes were shattered when they confirmed it was not him.
Elizabeth Auma, Brian’s mother, was optimistic upon hearing reports of a recovered body, believing it could be her son.
She rushed to Kwa Jack Mortuary, but after identifying the remains, she was left heartbroken.
“When I received the report, I quickly got on a motorcycle and rushed to the mortuary, hoping it might be my son. But after seeing the body, I realized it wasn’t him. I am still left with my sorrow,” Auma said.
Family Confirms Body That Was Found is Not for Brian Odhiambo
Reports indicate that the body recovered from Lake Nakuru National Park was found floating in the water, entangled in fishing gear, with visible facial injuries. Fishermen in the area positively identified the body.
David Kuria, a representative from IMLU who was present when the body was retrieved, stated that the remains appeared to be fresh.
“The condition of the body suggests it is still fresh. It appears to be entangled in fishing gear, but I also noticed blood, indicating the person might have been assaulted,” Kuria said.

The identification of the body comes two days after claims surfaced that Brian’s body was spotted floating in the water by youths on the evening of Monday, February 17.
According to reports, a game park boat carrying Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers allegedly threatened the fishermen who had identified the body before taking it away.
LSK President Confirms She Is Following Up on Brian’s Disappearance
Brian’s disappearance has sparked public debate, with political leaders, Nakuru residents, and human rights activists calling for a swift investigation into the matter.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo stated through her X account on Tuesday, February 18, that she is actively following up on Brian’s disappearance.

Brian was reportedly last seen on Saturday, January 18, 2025, after allegedly being taken by KWS officers. Since then, his family has been searching for him, visiting hospitals and morgues in Nakuru without success.
The High Court in Nakuru on February 6 2025 ruled that Brian Odhiambo, was not in the custody of KWS officers.
Justice Julius Nangea, issuing further orders in Odhiambo’s disappearance case, stated that there was no evidence he was ever in the custody of KWS officers.
