The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has asked Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino to stand down hours after summoning him.
In an earlier statement, DCI wrote to the MP asking him to present himself for investigations into money laundering and incitement.
In response, Babu told the authorities that he would show up on Wednesday, July 24, as ordered. However, he would be accompanied by his advocates, other MPs and some of his supporters.
“I have already enjoyed everything that I wanted to enjoy in life. I have been locked up in cells so many times. The DCI has unceremoniously withdrawn their summon.
“I was to be accompanied by my advocates, MPs and the people of Kenya, but it appears news of our visit in our thousands prompted them to recall their invitation,” he said while announcing the withdrawal of the summon.
Babu has maintained that he will not stay silent over the injustices taking place in the country adding that he is ready to pay the price, whatever it is.

Babu Owino Summoned to be Investigated
In a letter dated July 22, DCI noted that Babu Owino had vital information that would help them investigate some allegations against him.
Therefore, Babu was asked to report to the DCI headquarters at 9:00 am on July 24.
Failure to do so, he was informed that he would be liable for prosecution.
“Inquiring into an alleged offence of Police incitement and money laundry c/sec 96 of the penal code, where I do believe you HON BABU OWINO is involved or has information which can assist me in my investigations.
“Under the powers conferred to me under this section, I request you HON BABU OWINO to report to me at HEADQUARTERS JULY 2024 at DCI NAIROBI COUNTY Police Station TODAY on the 24TH day of 09:00 HRS MIDDAY am and furnish me with full information concerning the case,” the letter read in part.

Recent DCI Summons, Abductions and Arrests
Several Kenyans have so far either been abducted, summoned or arrested as DCI continues with investigations into ongoing unrest in the country.
The recent incidences include the alleged abduction of businessman Alinur Mohamed who said that he was kept in custody for two days after he was forcefully arrested by DCI officers.
He said that the men took his car keys, passport, business documents and Ksh456,000 that he had on him at the time. They then forced him into the back of the car and drove away.
On the other hand, social media influencer Francis Gaitho was summoned by DCI and charged with publication of false information concerning arrests made on the Mukuru Kwa Njenga dumpsite mystery.
The former Thika Member of Parliament (MP) aspirant revealed that his case was handled with professionalism, further thanking the DCI for their conduct.
Earlier, Veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho, in a case of mistaken identity, was arrested by police officers at Karen police station, where he had gone to report that he was being followed.
