The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a public notice to all tow truck owners, motor vehicle dealers, both new and second-hand, and repairers of motor vehicles informing them of a multi-Agency license revalidation exercise scheduled to commence on November 11, 2024.
In the notice published on Tuesday, October 15, NTSA directed all operators to complete and submit an online license revalidation form available on the Authority’s website at www.ntsa.go.ke on or before Wednesday, 6th November 2024.
As part of the exercise, the multi-Agency team will conduct a physical inspection of the operator’s premises to verify the information submitted through the online revalidation form.
“Pursuant to Section 23(1) and 24(c) of the Traffic Act Cap 403, the National Transport and Safety Authority is mandated to license and regulate motor vehicle and motorcycle dealers,” the Authority’s statement read in part.
The Authority urged target dealers to ensure that the information provided is of utmost accuracy to avoid any inconveniences.
For enquiries and details on the revalidation exercise, operators are asked to visit the nearest NTSA office or NTSA Huduma Centre help desks to seek clarification.

How to Check Your NTSA License Validity
The Authority has provided a way for vehicle owners to check their license validity. The process is aimed at ensuring that drivers and other vehicle operators possess valid licenses to curb the fake licenses menace.
NTSA reports that the number of fake licenses was higher during previous years. However, the Authority hinted that the new digital driving licenses are curbing the challenge.
Application for the Smart Digital Driving License is done through the Authority’s Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) account.
All drivers who hold the new Electronic Smart Driving License are supposed to have an active NTSA TIMS account containing all the details of their current driving license.
To check whether your driving license is original or valid, log in to your NTSA TIMS account, or create one if you do not have an account yet.
When logged in to your TIMS account, you will be able to see and check if you are using a valid driving license. The NTSA TIMS account will show you if the driving license you are currently using is under your name, National Identification Card, among others.
If the system can confirm that all information under your driving license is correct, then you are good to go.
Additionally, the Authority’s TIMS system will also allow you to check exactly what date your driving license will expire. The same date should also appear on your driving license.
On the other hand, motor vehicle operators can validate their licenses by visiting the nearest NTSA office, through the NTSA Mobile App, or through Short Message Service (SMS) using short USSD codes. As an operator, send an SMS message of your ID to 22846.

Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Dealers
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, in January 2022, ordered all motor vehicle and motorcycle dealers operating in the country to apply for fresh licensing by the Authority.
He instructed all operators to obtain digital licenses by April of the same year.
“Those who qualify will be issued with digital license cards, while existing licenses will be revoked at the expiry of the directive,” Matiangi stated.
The directive was further backed by recommendations from the Inter-Agency Team drawn from Transport and Security sectors.
The team had been established earlier to carry out the revalidation of all motor vehicle dealers, manufacturers, repairers of motor vehicles, and tow truck owners.
