Walter Onchonga Mong’are popularly known as Nyambane is no longer a staff at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Dr Korir Sing’Oei said Nyambane was relieved of his duties as Director of Programmes (Advocacy and Outreach) effective April 3, 2024.
Sing’Oei made the announcement via an internal memo marked addressed to all director generals, heads of mission, and departments within the Ministry of Diaspora and Foreign Affairs.
“This is to inform you that Walter Onchonga Mongáre, Director of Programmes (Advocacy & Outreach) is no longer authorized to act in any capacity on behalf of the State Department or myself,” Sing’Oei said.
The PS warned the staff and public against engaging Nyambana in any official assignment on behalf of the relating to the office of the PCS.
“This is therefore to instruct you to refrain, with immediate effect, from any official interactions and/or engagement with Mr. Mongáre,” he added.
Nyambane in Jubile Govt & 2022 Elections
Nyambane served as the Director and Youth Advisor during the reign of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He served in the Jubilee government from 2017 to February 2022 when he resigned to vie for the presidency.
Former IEBC Chairman cleared Nyambane as the first presidential aspirant in May 2022.
However, Chebukati revoked his clearance certificate a few days later after he obtained new information regarding Nyambane’s academic qualifications.

Kidero’s Reign
The entertainer also served in Dr Evans Kidero’s government as Nairobi City County’s Communication Director, Governor’s Office.
He was later suspended from his position in May 2016 when he failed to submit his credentials including academic credentials, HELB clearance form and certificate of good conduct.
However, Nyambane was reinstated in August the same year.

Other Positions
Prior to joining Governor Kidero, Mongare was the Communication Director for Kisii County Government.
He has also worked as the Group Head of Radio Services at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and other senior positions in the media industry.
Rise to Fame
Mong’are became popular in early 2000 when he was part of Red Kona comedy group (Reddykyulas).
The group focused on portraying former presidents Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki and he collaborated with John Kiarie (KJ now Dagoretti South Member of Parliament) and Tony Njuguna.
Njuguna acted as Moi’s bodyguard while KJ stood in for Moi’s sidekick and then KANU secretary-general Joseph Kamotho.
Reddykyulas became a popular name and kept many Kenyans entertained during weekends.
