John Ulanga has resigned as a director at the East African Breweries PLC (EABL) Company.
In a statement on April 2, EABL Secretary Angela Namwakira said the resignation took effect from 31 March 2024.
“EABL hereby announces the resignation of John Ulanga as Director of the Company effective from March 31, 2024,” read the statement.
Ulaga has left the Company after serving for five years as an independent Director.
EABL’s Board of Directors (BoD) thanked Ulanga for his sage counsel, invaluable business and professional advice, and service during his time at EABL.
EABL also praised the outgoing director for his authentic leadership as a Member of the Board and as Chair of Serengeti Breweries Limited and the Board Audit and Risk Management Committee.
“The BoD wishes Mr Ulanga all the very best in his future endeavors and continued good health, happiness, success and prosperity,” the statement read in part.
Experience Outside EABL
John Ulanga is an independent non-executive director currently serving as Ambassador and Director of International Trade and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania·
He served as Chief Executive Officer of Tanzania Financial Services for the Underserved Settlements (TAFSUS) between August and September 2023.
Prior to this, he was the Regional Director for East and Central Africa at TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) between July 2021 and June 2023.
TMEA is an East African not-for profit company limited by guarantee established in 2010 to support the growth of trade, both regional and international, in East Africa.
Ulanga also served as the Vice President, External Affairs and Sustainability for BG Group, a world leader in oil and gas exploration in East Africa.

Board Positions Ulanga Holds
According to EABL, Ulanga is the Chairman of the BoD of KCB Bank Tanzania Limited.
He holds the same position at the University Council of the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, Dar es Salaam.
This is an initiative aimed at upgrading slums and underserved settlements in Tanzania.
He is also a non-executive director in Mwananchi Communications Limited publishers of; The Citizen, Mwananchi and Mwanaspoti newspapers.

Ulanga is equally a Member of the Africa Policy Advisory Board ONE Campaign.
He is also a Fellow of the African Leadership Initiative, East Africa and the Aspen Global Leadership Network of the Aspen Institute in Colorado, USA.
Education
Ulanga holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Dar es Salaam and an Executive master’s in development policies and Practices from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.
He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA Tanzania), Certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner and a Certified Compliance Professional.
