The East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has announced a six and half month’s paid leave for female employees who miscarriage.
According to reports, the 26 weeks leave is meant to give the employees time to mourn and recover from their loss.
Additionally, the new policy will apply to male employees whose wives lose pregnancies.
The policy matches with that of its parent company, Diageo, which introduced paid pregnancy loss leave in September 2022 for its staff in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Further, EABL mentioned that experiencing pregnancy loss is a grieving process that requires patience and time.
For this reason, if the pregnancy loss occurs before 20 weeks, female employees or spouses will be given up to 10 working days paid leave.
“When pregnancy loss occurs after 20 weeks, the carrying female can access up to 26 weeks while the spouse can access up to 10 working days paid leave,” EABL is quoted by the Nation Newspaper.
Moreover, EABL’s described several types of pregnancy loss and the resources availed by the company during such occurrence.
